This is not always an option for everyone, as many people have to commute long distances to work and don’t have the fund for this kind of change.Unless you live within a few miles of everything you need you will always some form of transport that runs on fuel. Many eco warriors are changing to bio fuels or scaling down on the size of their cars.
My green transport tips can help you to do what you can to your cars’ carbon emissions and help you to feel a bit better about driving around.
Telecommute –
Depending on the type of work you do, approach your business and see if they are interested in setting up a telecommuting policy. Perhaps it’s time to make your own money and work from home in the ultimate green job and become your own boss!
Lift clubs –
Contact people in your neighbourhood to see whether they are keen to start a lift club. Yes, there are some fiddly logistics to sort this out, but it can be done.
Ride a bike –
Try to ride your bike for as many errands as possible. If you live close enough to work or the shops you can plan for extra travelling time and ride your bike. Where we live, our municipality has not yet put in biking lanes for commuters, but we hope this will happen in the near future. So be careful about choosing your travelling times, make sure you have the best safety equipment and see how often you can ride that bike. The bonus is of course your will become fitter and healthier for the exercise!
Public transport –
Can do a lift club? Can’t ride a bike? Then look at this green transport idea! Public transport during commuter hours is a safe green way to travel. Look into season tickets to save yourself further money and time.
Errands –
Group your errands for days when you will be in the area. Plan so that you never go out in your car for just one thing or on a whim.
Less air conditioning in your car –
Come on! Do you really need to run your heater or your cooler on the way to work? By running it less (bundle up or open a window depending on the weather) you save fuel and thus lower your C02 emissions!
Service car regularly –
Cars that are regularly serviced, have the correct tyre pressure also helps with fuel efficiency and thus makes the impact of your car more gentle on the environment. Diarise your services as well as making a regular check of water, tyres and fuel when you fill up.
At Clean Green Cars you can investigate more green transport solutions including green car technology, green driving tips and much more!
