With Winter months shading nearly 3/4’s of my backyard, I’ve decided to use the above little white buckets (R5 each)to grow my early Spring vegetable crops in, lining them all on narrow cement paving slabs next to the dark brick wall that receives all day sun. Having them so close to the kitchen, ensures that they receive adequate water as well.

As the tank bed and 80 litre tubs receive enough winter sun for growing my vegetables in, I cleared them one by one and replaced them with plants from these small tubs. I gain quicker maturing plants using this method and extend by months my harvesting period as well as cutting down on labour too.

All my newly purchased seedlings in trays are planted out in these small tubs, ensuring ongoing growth and when transplanted later, suffer no shock and gives stronger plants in the long run.
